Assistant Director

Helen is an accomplished professional with over 20 years of experience creating software applications and doing database development exclusively for higher education. When she is not working at Temple University, she enjoys volunteering for non-profits.

It’s so important for younger women making their way into their careers to make as many connections as they can. I can’t stress the importance of community and relationships. Without the encouragement of my mentors and other techies I’ve met through they years - I’d still be hiding behind the monitor.

Helen is driven by the love and support of her family and friends, and her desire to give back to communities. Before working in tech, she was a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She recalls learning about someone who went to the Chubb Institute for a computer programming certification and landed a job making twice as much as her salary as a nurse.  She applied for the same program, completed it then started her career in tech.

In 1997, she landed her first job in the Administrative Computer Services department at Temple University. She is still in the same department today but she was promoted to the Assistant Director position after receiving her first master’s degree in Ed Leadership.

Her typical workday includes attending meetings, writing code, providing support, maintaining systems, and more. She is currently in the process of wrapping up a 15-month graduate program in Digital Innovation in Marketing at Temple's Fox School of Business and she is looking forward to having more free time. Although she is also working on a special project with an environmental startup called Fabe.

When she is not working, she enjoys volunteering and networking. Most importantly she enjoys spending time with her family. She has been married to her husband Joe for 12 years and has six children due to their blended family. She is also a new grandma and a dog mom.
