Dr. Tracee Walker Gilbert is a passionate entrepreneur and systems engineering executive. She  has over 17 years experience and owns and operates System Innovation, LLC, which provides systems engineering and program management services to various clients in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. She has worked for Lockheed Martin, MITRE, Engility, and served as a AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow (STPF) at HHS and DoD. She received her B.A. (Physics, Minor Japanese) from Lincoln University and her M.S. (Systems Engineering), and Ph.D. (Industrial and Systems Engineering) from Virginia Tech. When she is not working, she is spending time with her family.

I don’t know if I ever achieve balance with a family and pursuing my entrepreneurial endeavors but I do strive to be my highest self.

As the CEO of System Innovation while also being a wife and mother of three, Dr. Gilbert has her hands full. Based in the DC area, her days begins with dropping off the children before heading to the office. Throughout the day she holds meetings with everyone from systems engineers to top execs. One of her accomplishments was leading a team to transition the department of defense from the traditional systems engineering approach to a Digital model-based approach. Some of her customers include the Services, NASA, professional, and academic societies across the country. She has also worked on providing systems engineering and program management support to develop a next generation target aircraft.

When she landed her first job she realized that she was born to be a systems engineer. Over the years, her love of leading teams to create solutions for challenging problems has grown tremendously. “Systems engineers bring together all of the disciplines on the project to enable the realization of successful systems” she shared. And added, “So I am driven by my passion and love for systems engineering. In recent years, I am really driven by and focus my efforts on aligning what I do with who God designed me to be.”

When she is not working she enjoys reading a page turning book, watching television, enjoying great food, and spending time with loved ones.
